During my master program and internship at the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab (TLTLab) I learned that using technology for creation promotes agency and helps minorities change their adverse feelings with respect to STEM topics.
I wanted to take this academic ideas out of the books and implementing them in Mexico. I co-founder of nonprofit named FAB!, where I adapted a program called Makers in Residence that was developed at the TLTLab and used it as the intervention in a randomized control trial. The goal was to understand if that program can work with the vulnerable populations in Mexico City. The success of the program was beyond anything I could imagine. Today, we continue our research. I wanted to find a way to bring that experience inside schools so I founded Active Emergence. I developed a training for teachers and facilitators so they can run different project-based learning programs and expanded into more academic structures. I took the experience in Mexico to Brazil, Spain, US and China. |
